Qatar, U.S. Leaders Hold Talks on Regional Security

(MENAFN) Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation on Wednesday focused on international efforts to reduce tensions and bolster security in the Middle East, according to a statement from Qatar’s Amiri Diwan.

The statement said the leaders exchanged views on recent regional developments and initiatives aimed at “de-escalation and promoting regional security and stability.”

Both leaders emphasized “the importance of continued coordination and consultation on issues of mutual interest” and reaffirmed their support for diplomatic efforts to address crises through dialogue and peaceful means, the statement added.

In addition, Tamim and Trump discussed the strategic relationship between their countries and explored measures to “enhance cooperation across various sectors,” it said.

The call comes as Iran and the US prepare for the next round of nuclear negotiations, following initial talks in Muscat last Friday mediated by Oman.
